If You Believe Jesus Died For Our Sins
How could Jesus pray for this sort of evil people like this? Whilst copying the Scriptures, some scribes acquired so upset that they scratched these words and phrases out of the earliest manuscripts. But Jesus experienced taught us to pray like this. In 6:27,28 he said: “But I tell you who hear me: Adore your enemies, do very good to people who hate you, bless individuals who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.” He also explained: “Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven” (6:37). Now, whilst they’re driving the nails into him, Jesus is practising his own instructing to forgive these who mistreat us.

It’s so hard to forgive. At times it requires us a long time to do it. But Jesus forgave instantly. How could he? He mentioned, “...for they do not know what they are doing” (cf. Ac3:17). Of program these people realized they had been crucifying him. But they did not know who he was, that he was the Son of God. They did not know what a great criminal offense they were committing from God. Sin makes us blind like that. We can not see that all our sins are really sins against our Creator God (15:21 cf. Ps51:4a). When we do not know what we’re performing, we’re silly and puzzled. When we really do not know what we’re undertaking, we’re hurting people who are so good to us. When we don’t know what we’re performing, we’re missing. Jesus observed sinful men and women not with critical, judgmental eyes, that we deserve hell, but with a damaged coronary heart, that we do not know what we are carrying out. Jesus wasn’t forcing himself to pray it arrived from his coronary heart: he truly desired these folks, and us, to be forgiven. He experienced the coronary heart of the father for his prodigal son (15:20). Jesus desires us to understand to see people like he did, so that we can sincerely pray for them.

What does it mean to forgive? In Greek it indicates to launch or permit go. It’s like permitting a criminal go free, or cancelling a credit card debt. Jeremiah 31:34b states, “For I will forgive their wickedness and will keep in mind their sins no far more.” It’s like wiping a slate thoroughly clean. Forgiveness is that radical. We desire God could just forgive, with no Jesus getting to go to the cross and struggling so a lot. But the Bible tells us that while God is so forgiving, he’s also just. For God to forgive, there experienced to be a just payment for sin. Jesus, the sinless Son of God, while being crucified, was getting the punishment for our sin, so God can freely forgive us by his grace (Ro3:23–26). Isaiah 53:five states, “But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.” Jesus’ forgiveness on the cross is like a salve to our wounds. We’re wounded by other folks, but mainly we’re wounded by our very own sins.
